Instrument Loop Tag Creation

Used to define tag information for an instrument loop.

Displays when the Loop option is selected from the Instruments gallery.

This dialog is a variation of the Properties dialog which displays the Tag Number and component Property information on the Instrument Loop being placed. Instrument Loops are functional and design definitions which have no physical component properties assigned to them. So when an Instrument Loop is created, three instruments are listed to be defined, placed and automatically associated with the loop.

SettingDescription
Component Tabs The tabbed section on the left lists the Tag Number (business key) and Class of the loop and instrument. Since loops are only functional definitions, they have no physical component associated with them. As a result, an instrument is placed at the same time as the loop. The information displayed in the Properties tab is dependent on whether the loop or an instrument is selected.
Tag Number By default, the Area value in the Plant tab is prefixed to the front of the tag number. You can either define the remaining tag number in the Tag Number field or by using the drop down lists in the Tag Information section explained below.
Tag Information

The Tag Information section contains the following fields allowing you to define values for the tag number:

Device Type Code: The drop down list here differs depending on whether an instrument loop or an individual instrument is selected in the All tab. See the following examples:

Loop Device Codes Instrument Device Codes

Number: User input field for data to be placed into the database NUM field. Selecting the down arrow within this field will launch a dialog to select the next available number from the database tag register or increment the current number by the amount shown in the Increment By field. The Maximum button sets the Tag Number one number above the current highest number used. (For example, if the current highest tag number used is FE-104, then the Maximum tag number will be set to FE-105.)

The Plant related properties, ( Plant Area, Service, System and Unit) can be defined by selecting a value from the drop down list next to them.

Browse The Browse button displays the Tag Browser dialog allowing you to search through a list of existing components. If you select an existing component tag number, the new component being placed will inherit the component properties from the existing component. You can opt to rename the tag number for the new component and still retain the inherited properties.
Reset Resets the tag to its original number.
Add Displays the Select Component dialog allowing you to add new components to the instrument loop.
Remove Deletes the selected instrument from the list.
Properties

The properties which display in this tab are dependent on whether an Instrument or Instrument Loop is selected in the All tab:

Instruments Loop: Instruments Loops are functional and design definitions which have no physical component properties assigned to them. The loop definitions deal with the operating and design conditions associated with the loop design.

Instruments: Represents the actual instruments to be placed in the loop. The component properties define the physical aspects of the instrument such as Bubble Radius, Housing Type, Calibration Requirements, etc.
